Last year I whipped up a Spider-Man/Spider-Gwen winter piece
and the last super-heroic post was incredibly fun to do. So I figured with a blizzard bearing down on the East Coast and Spidey on the brain I should do another similar piece. If you haven’t already, go check out Spider-Gwen, by Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez and Rico Renzi. Also keep an eye out for the upcoming Spider-Man featuring Miles Morales as the main arachnid fella by Bendis and Sara Pichelli.
In the meantime here’s my thing …
and here’s the process. Hope you like!
Did a little sketch of Spidey punching the Hulk. Just a warm up doodle and I liked it enough to add a couple of panels at the bottom to drive home the dopiness of a young Peter Parker. I light boxed it on to some bristol and inked it with pentel brush pens and copic multiliners. Then I colored it on Photoshop. It’s candy neon goofiness and I approached it like a coloring book, but I like the look of it. I hope you do, too!
I guess with #SDCC2015 in full swing I had been feeling the pull of super heroics on my drawing hand. A series of pen and ink and marker studies done for kicks, or as the kid likes to say, “for S&G’s”. I have one more set that I’ve yet to do, but will get their own post because without even knowing how they’ll turn out, they’ll deserve they’re own post.
*ominous sound* *filtered breathing*
In the meantime enjoy these li’l guys.
Here’s a look at the actual 9×12 bristol boards
The Marvel page came first and the thought process was, “You should just draw little headshots of characters you like” said the smart lady who keeps me out of trouble by keeping me busy. So I did, but just went about it all willy-nilly like a leaf on the wind (bring back Firefly… oh, ok).
Having a chance to think about it I stuck Bats in the middle and had his rogues gallery all directed at him, because… narrative? I don’t know, but I like it. It ultimately doesn’t matter because I’ll be cutting them apart and selling them off at some point. More on that soon…
I loved me some Daredevil on Netflix and, heaven help me, I enjoyed the second season of Agents of SHIELD (in that way you enjoy goofball shows in the background whilst toiling away on your own goofy endeavors). SHIELD is also on Netflix if you care, you’rewelcomeverymuch! The fine folks over at Nerds of Color wrote a very fun piece on how SHIELD is the new Firefly. Read it here.
Below is the itch that needed to be scratched after consuming so much nerdy content. Final art and process pics. If you’re a colorist looking to dabble feel free to grab the BW and go to town. If you post your work just give credit where credit’s due!
Hope you enjoy!
